In contrast to most Linux distributions the philosophy of Ubuntu is not to include every Linux package that is available, but to make a balanced selection of quality Linux applications. Combined with a friendly installer, Ubuntu makes the ideal Linux distribution for those who are new to Linux or are looking for an easier Linux desktop.

The Ubuntu-range consists of two editions:

• Desktop
  Well-suited as an easy Linux desktop, Desktop provides a broad selection of multimedia-software and hardware-support. The Live CD offers the possibility to run Ubuntu directly from CD, as well as installing Ubuntu onto your harddisk. The Install CD is a suitable alternative for those who do not need to run Ubuntu directly from CD or wish to install Ubuntu on older systems.
• Server
  The renewed Server Edition offers stability and speed, ready for use in a professional enviroment. New features include virtualization support and improved hardware support.
